The Fox Renard 222 bassoon is a favored choice for students seeking a high-quality, beginner-friendly instrument. Based on the Fox II bassoon and reflecting Hugo Fox’s original design, the Fox 222 offers a warm, even tone and stable intonation across its full range. Like all of the company’s instruments, it features excellent keywork, crafted by skilled artisans, and includes a full German key system with silver-plated keys. The Fox 222 also comes with two C bocals (#2 and #3 lengths), a premium bassoon reed, a hand rest, neck and seat straps, and cleaning cloths and swabs. This instrument is an excellent choice for young players embarking on their musical journey.
The Fox Renard 222 bassoon is constructed from carefully selected and cured maple, providing a rich and resonant tone. It features a German bell with a synthetic-ivory ring and includes a body lock for added security. The wing and small bore of the boot are lined to protect against moisture damage, and nickel-silver water tubes extend into the bore to prevent moisture accumulation in the toneholes.
The Fox 222 model includes a full German key system with silver-plated keys. Each key is meticulously hand-mounted by Fox’s expert assemblers. The key system features rollers for the right little finger F and Ab, as well as for the left little finger Eb and Db. Additionally, there is a short-reach left-hand third-finger plateau key, designed to help younger players maintain proper hand positioning.
