Educational Service Representative

This position is intricate to facilitating Instrument rentals and sales and supporting all Ted Brown Music business strategies. The employee is expected to become a trusted advisor and full-service account manager to the schools’ music department.

Job Description

A candidate in this position must have excellent interpersonal skills; including the ability to build and establish strong working relationships with school band and orchestra directors. We are seeking individuals with a background in music and strong product knowledge. This position will be the Education Service Representative to a select group of schools in the area.

Essential Functions:
- Establish rapport with music educators and administrators to establish an ongoing business relationship between schools and Ted Brown Music
- Renting instruments which includes all coordination of rental events with school districts and individual schools, public and private
- Recruit new students utilizing video and aptitude listening tests and hands on instrument play testing
- Compose and deliver marketing materials including:
  • instrument rental night letters
  • half sheets reminders and mailing labels
  • plan mailing dates with the school district and with the person in the store who handles the mailings
- Organize and implement instrument demos and pretesting including all scheduling, training of staff, gathering needed instruments and supplies
- Service route on a weekly or biweekly basis which includes:
  • Picking up or dropping off repairs
  • Picking up or delivering store inventory and school owned instruments
  • Dropping off loaners or exchanges and picking up returns
- Utilize the proper procedure for handling rental returns, repairs and, exchanges
- Probe for potential sales, including but not limited to:
  • step-up and pro instruments
  • accessories
  • pro audio products
  • percussion items
  • print music
- Adhere to all proper procedure for requesting school quotes, asking all the questions from the educator regarding specifications (color, model, application, etc…) and providing that information to the person required to make the quote
- Participate in state and regional music conferences
- Attendance of concerts at our client’s schools is recommended to keep good client relationships but not mandatory
- Participate in band and orchestra festivals and contests; sometimes providing a repair tech, equipment, manpower and support materials
- Delivery support for all other departments at Ted Brown Music, including delivering pro audio sales, print music, accessories, serialized inventory, etc., to schools

Travel:
- Travel is expected for this position, which will be approximately 50% to 75%. Travel will be primarily to and from area schools, churches, offsite store locations and musical festivities.
Supervisory Responsibility :
- This position has no direct reports
Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 2 years' experience in the music industry preferably in sales
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Approachable, cooperative, and supportive approach to customers internal and external
- Bachelor’s degree in music or related field preferred. Education and experience may substitute for overall qualifications

Additional Pay Benefit

Full-time employees start earning 3% commission immediately paid monthly upon hire.

PTO Benefits

Full-time employees will also receive sick leave at the same rate. In addition, full time employees will receive 1 week of vacation accrued at the rate of 1.54 hours each pay period for two years. After the two-year anniversary occurs, employees will accrue 3.08 hours each pay period or two weeks of vacation each year. Once the employee reaches 7 years, vacation time will be accrued at 4.62 hours per pay period or three weeks per year. Sick leave and vacation time can be used as accrued with no waiting period.

In addition to your salary, Ted Brown Music offers a competitive benefit package of medical, vision, voluntary dental, 401K, six paid holidays, sick leave, and one week vacation. Eligible dependents can be added to all medical for an additional cost. You will become eligible for benefits on the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment inside and outside of Ted Brown Music. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners.

Physical Requirements

This position requires driving to and from many different locations. While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, drive, point, type and deliver promotional items. The employee must also frequently lift and / or move items that are awkward in nature like a set of chimes, marimba, or a copper timpani. Also required is the lifting of small items of up to 20 lbs., and oversized items (full size tuba) up to 63 lbs. or heavier. At times you will be required to lift instruments over your head to put them on a shelf or climb a ladder with the instrument to lift on to a shelf. The working conditions may be loud, due to consistent demonstration of musical instruments and pro-audio equipment.
