Ted Brown Music is proud to sponsor the first ever Northwest Band Workshop, an online experience for band directors! Join guest conductors John M. Wetherington and Dr. Kaitlin Bove for this two-day event.

2020 Northwest Band Workshop

August 13th & 14th, 9:00am to 3:00pm

The Northwest Band Workshop is an online event that will allow you the opportunity to listening to and discussing new music for the upcoming school year. To help bring a new light and voice into your existing libraries, this years workshop will focus on pieces by lesser known composers, specifically women and people of color. In addition to our group discussions, six composers will join us and exhibit their music in their own Composer Spotlight.

Each attendee will also receive a copy of a work commissioned especially for the event. This piece, by New Renaissance Artist Elizabeth A. Baker, will be flexibly scored and include an electronic track. The work can be performed by high school or middle school ensembles (or both!) in person or virtually.

As part of the workshop, we will discuss rehearsal strategies in a session with Elizabeth A. Baker and create our own virtual premiere of the piece - so have your instruments ready!

The 2020 workshop will happen in a Virtual environment via Zoom and take place on and . The schedule for both days is 9:00am to 3:00pm with an hour lunch from 11:00am to 12:00pm. In addition we will take a short 10 minute break at the top of each hour.

The event will be hosted by Dr. Kaitlin Bove and John M. Wetherington and is sponsored by Ted Brown Music. Cost to attendees will be $50 with registration on the Ted Brown Music website. In addition to the commissioned piece, attendees will leave the workshop with a list of resources to help with programming for the coming school year.

…And We Were Heard is giving underrepresented composers a platform to have their music heard. Composers submit works, are matched with top-notch wind bands, and engage in collaborative recording sessions. The resulting audio tracks are hosted on the … And We Were Heard’s site along with innovative ideas of how to support diverse voices in music.
